Using Digital Signage to Watch the World Cup

We are huge soccer (or, as one of our marketing guys from England pronounces it, “football”) fans at L Squared. The FIFA World Cup is only a couple of weeks away and, in an effort to help our happy customers get more from their screens, we wanted to update you on how signage can help employees experience the greatest tournament in the world live while giving managers lots of extra credit with their teams!!!

LED displays are more than marketing communication tools. You can easily set them up to allow your team to have the ‘big match’ on in the background

Okay, so we understand that some jobs, such as manufacturing roles on the shop floor or displays in retail outlets may not be appropriate for showing sporting events but allowing employees in non-sensitive environments to soak up some of the action in real time can be a huge morale booster and a super employee engagement initiative.

Let’s face it, in today’s world of smart phones, social media and live streaming, there are so many ways that staff can keep an eye on the game that you may as well eradicate any possible sneaky viewing of high-profile events and offer it to all employees as a team building and engagement exercise.

This kind of approach can be more effective in the long run than demanding or expecting 100 per cent attention to the work at hand when the big game is happening.

“It’s a reality that companies have to face,” says John Trougakos, an associate professor of management at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

“To say it’s not going to be an issue, or a non-factor, is almost like putting your head in the sand and ignoring the obvious.”

The 2014 FIFA World cup is expected to attract an audience of 3.2 billion people (surpassing this year’s Super Bowl by a mere 3.1 billion!). Why not let your employees be part of that number?

After all, it only happens once every four years and it could be a great way to show your staff that you care.
